How it Started
LOWEY BUNDY SICHOL was on book tour for the release of her series, FROM AN IDEA TO… when she noticed a trend. Most of the schools she visited had the resources to bring children’s authors to their school and the budget to purchase books. But what about the others? Title 1 schools deserve author visits, books, and inspiration, too. She wondered how she could create a giving back author visit program for Title 1 schools.
ENTER PLS. PLS is a 24/7 financial service center business with over 200 locations throughout the United States. They, too, were looking for different ways to give back to the communities near the stores.
TOGETHER, Lowey & PLS developed a Giving Back program that has donated free author visits and thousands of books to students and teachers at Title 1 schools. In 2023, PLS was honored with the prestigious Activa Award by INFiN, a Financial Services Alliance, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to involvement in local communities throughout the country.
How it Works
Free Author Visit
Lowey donates her author visit to Title 1 schools near PLS locations. There is no cost to the schools and every student in grades K-5 are invited to attend.
Free Books
The sponsoring company donates one book to every student and teacher in the schools we visit. To date, we have donated thousands of books, and we’re just getting started.
Day of Event
Kids and teachers enjoy an inspirational author visit with Lowey Bundy Sichol. At the end of the author visit, PLS employees surprise the school with the books – one book for every student AND every teacher. It is truly a special and memorable day for all.
Personalized Signature
Each book includes a PLS-branded bookplate sticker that is personalized by Lowey with a special message for every student.
